چکیده

The basic astrometric observable of the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) instrument is the pathlength delay. This measurement is made by a combination of internal metrology measurements that determine the distance the starlight travels through the two arms of the interferometer and a measurement of the white light stellar fringe to nd the point of equal pathlength. Because this operation requires a nonnegligible integration time, the interferometer baseline vector is not stationary over this time period, as its absolute length and orientation are time-varying. This paper addresses how the time-varying baseline can be \regularized" so that it may act as a single baseline vector for multiple stars, as required for the solution of the astrometric equations.

Obervational Model for Microarcsecond Astrometry with the Space Interferometry Mission

The Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) is a space-based long-baseline optical interferometer for precision astrometry. One of the primary objectives of the SIM instrument is to accurately determine the directions to a grid of stars, together with their proper motions and parallaxes, improving a priori knowledge by nearly three orders of magnitude. The basic astrometric observable of the instrum...

The Space Interferometry Mission

The Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) will be 10-m Michelson interferometer in Earth-trailing solar orbit. AS a part of NASA's Origins program, it will be the first space-based optical interferometer designed for precision astrometry. As well as enabling forefront astronomical science, SIM will serve as a technology pathfinder for future Origins missions, such as the Terrestrial Planet Finder ...

Relativistic stellar aberration for the Space Interferometry Mission

This paper analyses the relativistic stellar aberration requirements for the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM). We address the issue of general relativistic deflection of light by the massive self-gravitating bodies. Specifically, we present estimates for corresponding deflection angles due to the monopole components of the gravitational fields of a large number of celestial bodies in the sola...

The Future of Space Astrometry

The future of space-based astrometric missions appears to be very promising. Three missions were described at IAU Colloquium 180. These are the Full-sky Astrometric Mapping Explorer (FAME), the Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) and the Global Astrometric Interferometer for Astrophysics (GAIA) missions. These missions will substantially improve the accuracy of global astrometric measurements ma...

Efficient Fitting of Multi-planet Keplerian Models to Radial Velocity and Astrometry Data

We describe a technique for solving for the orbital elements of multiple planets from radial velocity (RV) and/or astrometric data taken with 1 m/s and μas precision, appropriate for efforts to detect Earth-massed planets in their stars’ habitable zones, such as NASA’s proposed Space Interferometry Mission. We include details of calculating analytic derivatives for use in the Levenberg-Marquard...
